The Aputure STORM 400x Bi-Color LED Monolight is a next-generation lighting solution designed for filmmakers, cinematographers, and content creators who demand precision, portability, and power in their lighting setups. Powered by Aputure’s proprietary BLAIR (Blue/Lime/Amber/Indigo/Red) light engine, this 400W LED light delivers exceptional color accuracy and high light output, rivaling 500W and 600W COB lights. With a wide CCT range from 2500K to 10,000K and full green/magenta tint adjustment, the STORM 400x delivers precise white light tuning and vibrant, saturated colors, covering over 70% of the Rec. 2020 color space. This makes it ideal for a wide range of applications, from studio productions to location shooting in challenging environments.

The BLAIR light engine uses a five-diode design that includes blue, lime, amber, indigo, and red LEDs, ensuring superior spectral mixing and unprecedented accuracy in white light. The inclusion of indigo emitters enhances the fluorescence of materials, mimicking natural daylight and tungsten sources, resulting in more realistic rendering of skin tones, fabrics, and other surfaces. This advanced chipset achieves a CRI≥95, TLCI≥95, SSI (D56): 85, and TM-30 RF: 95, ensuring critical color performance for professional film and video productions. The STORM 400x also supports Limited HSIC+ and x,y coordinate modes, allowing filmmakers to create deep, rich colors, such as crimson sunsets or sodium amber, without the need for gels.

With an impressive output of 27,100 lux at 1 meter (5600K with a 35° reflector) and up to 23,000 lux at 3 meters with a CF7 Fresnel lens, the STORM 400x offers brightness comparable to higher-wattage lights. Its continuous dimming from 0.1% to 100% ensures smooth transitions and flicker-free operation, even at the lowest output levels, making it suitable for both subtle lighting effects and high-intensity key lighting. The ProLock Locking Bowens mount, inspired by robust PL-mount technology, securely holds heavy modifiers like the 5' Octa DoPchoice or the F10 Fresnel without movement, ensuring precise optical alignment even in windy conditions.

Designed for versatility, the STORM 400x boasts an IP65 dust and weather resistance, allowing the light head and control box to operate in extreme conditions, including rain. The compact design, with the light head measuring 23.9 x 25.3 x 42.4 cm and weighing 3.95 kg, combined with a separate control box (3.00 kg), makes it ideal for mobile setups or compact lighting kits. The light includes an intelligent cooling system with four fan modes (Smart, High, Medium, Silent) to balance output and noise levels, adapting to sound-sensitive environments like interviews or narrative shots.

The STORM 400x offers advanced control options, including the Sidus Link and Sidus Link Pro apps for wireless control via Bluetooth, LumenRadio CRMX, 16-bit DMX512 in/out, Art-Net, and sACN Ethernet, ensuring seamless integration into complex lighting networks. The control box includes a V-Mount or Gold Mount battery plate for portable power, making it a reliable choice for location shoots. Aluminum construction ensures durability, while the included soft case makes it easy to transport.

Part of Aputure's STORM series, the STORM 400x shares the same innovative technology as the STORM 1200x and XT52, but in a more compact form, earning it the nickname "Baby BLAIR" from Aputure Chief Marketing Officer Aaron Tsai.
