The Blackmagic Design ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO 2TB is a compact, redesigned live streaming switcher ideal for television studios, remote productions, or live events. It offers eight 3G-SDI inputs supporting video up to 1080p60, built-in live streaming, USB webcam support, a 58-channel audio mixer, chroma keyers, DVE, transitions, media players, internal recording with a built-in 2TB M.2 NVMe drive, and talkback support. Production Switcher Control

Simple Setup and Use

Just press any of the program row buttons on the front panel to switch between video sources. Alternatively, you can pre-select a source in the preview row and then choose between cut or effect transitions by selecting the cut or auto buttons. You can choose from eye-catching transitions like dissolves, or more impactful effects such as dip-to-color, DVE squeeze, and DVE push. You can even add a DVE for picture-in-picture effects with custom graphics. Media players are also available, allowing you to store graphics with alpha channels for titles and images, which you can load as live video inputs. Then, you can stream the results.

The front panel includes buttons for source selection, triggering transitions, and configuring video effects. Furthermore, the buttons are of the same high quality used on expensive broadcast mixers. There is also an integrated T-bar for manual transition control. The front panel also includes an innovative audio mixer control area with real-time metering on a dedicated LCD. The T-fader can be used for video effect transitions, or you can perform the transition automatically by pressing the Auto button. Auto mode uses the transition duration set in the system control panel. You can also select the type of effect you want, including Mix, which performs a smooth transition between sources, or Dip, which transitions via a third video source, such as a color generator. A wide range of SMPTE transitions is included, along with DVE effects that slide or squeeze the image off the screen when transitioning between video sources.

Creative Transitions

ATEM Television Studio includes the same type of transitions found in expensive broadcast mixers. This means effects and transitions can be customized in many different ways, making them surprisingly powerful. You will never stop discovering new ways to use them. This is because all transitions can be customized by adjusting parameters such as duration, border color, border width, position, and direction.

You can also use the DVE with a wipe transition, where the DVE moves a graphic over the edge of the wipe. This is called a graphic transition and is frequently used in sports broadcasts. The preview transition button can be used to set up effects offline, which is great for eliminating mistakes.

Built-In DVE

ATEM Television Studio HD features an independent DVE that allows you to reposition graphics and create picture-in-picture compositions. You get stunning quality, and the DVE supports positioning, resizing, and scaling, all in real time. The DVE allows you to create professional picture-in-picture effects with customizable 3D borders, shadows, and lighting. DVEs can also be used to create fantastic DVE transitions with squeeze, swoosh, and push effects to add dynamism to your programming. You can even combine DVE transitions with custom graphics to create your own graphic wipe transitions. Additionally, there is a SuperSource multi-layer processing engine with four extra DVEs.

Supports Internal Media

The built-in media pool stores broadcast-quality graphics and animations that can be played back using the integrated media players. Media players appear as independent sources, so you don't need to waste SDI inputs for graphics. For maximum quality, all media supports RGB color space with an alpha channel, allowing transparency and overlaying. The media pool can hold 20 still images in HD resolution. Motion graphics clips for animations and stingers can hold up to 400 frames in 720p and 200 frames in 1080p. The ATEM Control software allows you to upload and manage media. You can even prepare graphics in Adobe Photoshop and then download them into the media pool using the free ATEM Photoshop plug-in.

ATEM Television Studio is perfect for news and on-set presentations because it includes four ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers for green screen chroma keying effects. The chroma keyers are incredibly powerful and include features like a color picker to sample background colors for automatic key parameter generation.

You get precise controls for borders and flare, and even a foreground color corrector so you can match the foreground and background levels for seamless compositions. You can even use it for title overlays by creating graphics with a green or blue background. SuperSource Processing

In addition to the DVE in ATEM Television Studio, there is also a powerful SuperSource multi-layer processor. SuperSource offers four additional DVE layers plus a background layer, all overlaid as an additional input source. Any video input can be used as a source for each DVE, and it is then overlaid on a custom media pool background or live video. SuperSource is perfect for creating multiple picture-in-picture displays with interviewees, because you can set up the effect so the viewer can see each person being interviewed, all within a stylish graphic. SuperSource is like having a completely independent multi-layer VFX switcher built right in.

Eight 3G-SDI Inputs with Standards Conversion

ATEM Television Studio HD features eight independent 3G-SDI inputs, each with its own dedicated standards converter. This means you can convert any 1080p or 720p input source to the switcher's video standard, allowing you to use a different television standard for each SDI input and have all inputs work seamlessly.

SDI input audio channels 1, 2, 3, and 4 can also be manually routed to various embedded audio channels in the program and auxiliary outputs. Additionally, you can route audio channels 1 and 2 from the SDI inputs to the MADI digital audio output, so you can hand off the switcher's incoming audio to an external sound engineer for mixing.

16-Source Multiview on a Single Monitor

When producing large live productions with multiple cameras, it is crucial to view all video sources simultaneously on a single monitor. ATEM Television Studio HD includes a professional multiview feature that lets you see all video inputs, preview, and program on a single SDI or HDMI monitor. You can also send the multiview to the auxiliary outputs. Each camera view includes tally indicators so you know when each source is on air, and each view has customizable labels and audio meters. You can fully customize the multiview layout with up to 16 simultaneous views. You can also select one of the additional status views that allows you to monitor recording, streaming, and audio mixer status, directly from the multiview.

Add Audio Expansion for More Microphones

If you are building a podcasting studio or need more microphones, the ATEM Microphone Converter allows for audio input expansion. It connects to the ATEM Television Studio via the MADI port, so no complex configuration is required, and you can daisy-chain units to add more inputs. Each converter features four analog inputs that are microphone/line selectable and include phantom power.

The design delivers amazing quality with an extremely low noise floor of -129 dBV, a dynamic range of 131 dB(A), low distortion of 0.002%, and uniform tolerances across all channels. It even uses eight separate ADCs on each input to collectively extend the dynamic range. Additionally, it features a fun HDMI monitoring output with scrolling audio waveforms.

Direct Recording to Internal Cloud Storage or USB Disks

ATEM Television Studio HD supports recording to external USB flash disks or the built-in 2TB M.2 flash drive, allowing you to record directly to internal cloud storage. Internal storage and any external USB disks will be available for sharing over the local Ethernet network, so other people can work on post-production tasks like editing, color correction, and graphics preparation.

All recordings are in H.264 format with AAC audio for broadcast-quality video and small file sizes. You can connect multiple USB disks, so recording continues even if one disk becomes full. There are buttons on the control panel to start recording, and you can view the recording status in the multiview.

The software is tricked into believing that ATEM Television Studio HD is a standard webcam, but it is actually a live production switcher. A broadcast-standard 12V DC XLR power connection is included, perfect as a backup power supply or for battery operation. This means you can use it even in extremely remote locations. Designed to Be Easy to Repair

With so many built-in features, it is crucial that ATEM Television Studio is easy to repair. Furthermore, there is already extensive built-in redundancy, with four Ethernet connections, nine program SDI outputs, two USB ports, and two power connections. However, if someone trips over a cable and breaks a connector, you need to be able to repair the connector at a low cost.

All internal electronic PCBs are modular, so any qualified technician can purchase a replacement and easily swap out the board. This includes the connector PCBs, which can be purchased separately. All the technician needs to do is remove the bottom cover and replace the PCB. A large broadcaster could even purchase the boards as a spares kit.
