Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G G3 offers impeccable quality audio monitoring in a super compact design from just one rack unit to install wherever you want! The front panel is dominated by highly accurate audio level indicators that switch between a variety of standards. In addition to offering a 12G-SDI input for monitoring audio from professional video devices, the new model includes a 10G Ethernet SMPTE-2110 IP video input for connecting IP-based broadcast systems without the use of converters. It also has traditional audio inputs: XLR for balanced analogue audio, HiFi and AES/EBU. Not only that, thanks to the HDMI video output it allows you to perform audio monitoring on large TV or computer screens!

Machined metal design

The Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G's machined aluminum construction is extremely sturdy yet lightweight. The chassis is anodized in black and matches perfectly with other Blackmagic devices. Furthermore, the metal design eliminates acoustic vibrations even at high volumes. The two audio indicators are composed of 27 segments individually machined into the aluminum chassis. This way the light from each is perfectly separated, resulting in flawless indicators. On the front panel you will find the Solo Left and Solo Right buttons, Input to select the 12G-SDI inputs, 2110 for IP video, AES/EBU, HiFi or analog audio and the button to mute the speakers. The headphone input is also conveniently positioned on the front panel.

Professional sound in compact dimensions

Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G produces amazing sound in just 1RU. Thanks to its very powerful amplifier, the audio can be monitored even in noisy environments such as live events. Its secret lies in the design with two subwoofers with acoustics capable of recreating powerful and deep bass despite its limited size. At the same time the digital processor adjusts the multi-frequency bands to achieve a uniform frequency response. That's why it offers great sound in a compact form factor and is ideal for installation in small control vans, flight cases, broadcast racks and control rooms.

Accurate audio levels

Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G displays precision audio levels in authentic analog style that perfectly comply with audio monitoring standards. The secret lies in an RGB LED for each segment of the indicators, the color of which can be changed according to the desired standard. Each segment is also individually crafted and insulated, perfectly sealing the light within. Meters are selectable from VU -20dBFS and -18dBFS, PPM EBU -20dBFS and -18dBFS, PPM BBC -20dBFS and -18dBFS, Loudness EBU +9 and +18 and Loudness in K-weighting LUFS +9 and +18. Thanks to the included adhesive labels you can change the standard of audio levels based on the chosen scale.

Backlit controls and monitoring LCD

In addition to accessing a variety of audio controls from the front panel, you can monitor the 12G-SDI and 2110 IP video inputs directly from the Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G's LCD. On this display you also control the type of input selected, the video standard and the audio pair integrated into the video input, and even the volume! The volume for the headphones or speaker is adjustable with the volume knob on the front panel. Here you will also find the two Solo buttons to listen to only the right or left channel of the audio. With the two Ch arrows scroll between the various integrated audio channels. There is also an Input button for selecting the input and the Mute button!

Monitoring on large TV screens

One of the most interesting features of the Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G is the HDMI monitoring output, designed for connecting large TV or computer screens and using them as broadcast monitors. The HDMI output is converted from the selected video input (12G-SDI or 2110 for IP video). The 12G-SDI loop output is also capable of transmitting the video of the selected input (SDI and 2110 for IP video). Not only that, you will be able to monitor all the audio pairs integrated into the video signal of these inputs.

Compatible with all SD, HD and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60

Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G is capable of separating the audio of all SD, HD and Ultra HD video standard signals. It is therefore ideal for connecting to existing broadcast SDI devices and new 2110-based systems for IP video. In SD, the Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G supports both 525i59.94 and 625i50 standards; in HD, supports all 720p video standards up to 720p60, all standards dard interlaced 1080 up to 1080i60 and all standard 1080p up to 1080p60. In Ultra HD, it supports all video standards up to 2160p60. Furthermore, switching from one standard to another is instantaneous and automatic based on the video input.

Direct video monitoring via 12G-SDI

The Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G's advanced 12G-SDI connections allow it to work with current HD and future Ultra HD video formats. 12G-SDI enables Ultra HD high frame rates via a single BNC connection that connects to existing HD gear, making the Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G compatible with all SD, HD, 3G, 6G, and 12G-SDI devices, and all HD and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60. If you only broadcast in high definition you can switch to Ultra HD at any time because the Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G automatically detects the video input and immediately begins operating in Ultra HD.

Direct connection to SMPTE 2110 IP networks

Build modern 2110 IP video systems with the Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G G3, which connects directly to the SMPTE-2110 standard for IP video. The SMPTE-2110 standard defines the transport, synchronization and description of video, audio and ancillary data in IP networks for broadcast. Also supports SMPTE-2110-20 uncompressed video, Blackmagic IP compressed codec for high frame rate Ultra HD, SMPTE-2110-21 for traffic modes and timing, SMPTE-2110-30 for audio, and SMPTE -2110-40 for auxiliary data.

NMOS protocol for virtual routing

Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G supports the NMOS interface specification so all your 2110 IP video devices can operate in unison as one large virtual matrix. Additionally, Videohub Smart Control can act as a NMOS controller, routing sources to destinations in IP 2110 networks. The NMOS interface specification specifies how to detect and control SMPTE 2110 devices on IP networks. Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G supports IS-04 to discover and record IP video devices and IS-05 to manage connections between IP video devices. This allows you to connect sources and destinations just like with a normal SDI matrix!

Monitoring of analogue and AES/EBU audio sources

Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G is an extraordinary analog audio monitoring solution because it includes various types of traditional inputs for analog and digital audio. The analog audio inputs are of the highest quality ensuring broadcast quality with low distortion and noise. The rear panel houses balanced analog audio inputs on professional XLR connectors. The AES/EBU digital audio input is also on a professional XLR connector. To connect consumer devices there is also a HiFi input with two RCA connectors. This means that the Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G is fantastic for monitoring both audio and video sources!

Compatible with HDR video sources

Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G integrates seamlessly into HDR workflows. Connect a monitor, projector or TV with HDR technology and you're ready to monitor in HDR! PQ and Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) static metadata formats in the VPID are handled according to the ST2108-1, ST2084, and ST425 standards. Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G also supports ST425, which defines 2 new bits in the VPID to indicate transfer characteristics of SDR, HLG or PQ. The ST2108-1 standard instead defines the transport of static or dynamic HDR metadata via SDI. It is also compatible with the ST2082-10 for 12G-SDI and the ST425 for 3G-SDI sources, as well as with Rec.2020 and Rec.709 color spaces.

Manage settings and updates remotely

If there are a large number of devices in a complex broadcast facility, remote management is vital for diagnosing problems, changing settings and updating software. Simply download the free Blackmagic Audio Monitor utility to update your software and change settings. It is available for Mac and for Windows. To update the software connect your computer directly to the USB port on the rear panel, or for remote management use the Ethernet connection and your IP network. For example, in large studios it is possible to update the software of all Blackmagic Audio Monitors from a single computer, ideal when they are not installed on site.

Blackmagic Audio Monitor 12G is operable in different languages, selectable of your choice. The options are English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, German, French, Russian, Italian, Portuguese, Turco, Polish and Ukrainian. Select your language from the Blackmagic Audio Monitor utility and change it at any time. Once selected you will see the LCD display update in the requested language.
